Broccoli for Development and Capacity Building held an extensive dialogue session at its offices, bringing together representatives from several political parties. The session aimed to open a deep discussion on the reality of youth participation in political party work, exploring the challenges and opportunities available to develop their presence within parties and enhance their role in decision-making.

The session was based on a set of questions and themes that reflected the urgent need to understand the reasons why young people are hesitant to join parties, alongside discussing the gap between what youth expect from parties and what these parties actually offer. Participants also examined the current mental image of parties among youth, and the societal and organizational factors that contributed to shaping this perception.
The discussions touched upon the language of party discourse and its suitability for youth, in addition to the internal obstacles that limit the development of young people within party structures, both in terms of participation and assuming leadership roles. Attendees discussed the challenges facing parties in communicating with youth through universities and social media platforms, and ways to improve the effectiveness of this communication.

The session also addressed the role of Broccoli’s Youth Observatory, viewing it as a platform that can provide parties with information and data related to youth, thereby contributing to the formulation of programs and policies that respond to their interests. An agreement was reached on the importance of cooperation between the Observatory and the parties through periodic reports, joint workshops, and continuous meetings aimed at enhancing trust and providing spaces for dialogue for young people within the parties.
In conclusion, participants presented several recommendations, most notably: the necessity of developing party discourse to become closer to the language of youth, expanding attractive activities for them, improving transparency within parties, and enabling young people to play a greater role in decision-making. The importance of implementing high-impact joint initiatives during the coming months was also highlighted, to showcase youth success stories and support party presence in various governorates.
This session comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the Broccoli Foundation to enhance political awareness among youth and create a dialogue environment that contributes to building a stronger relationship between political parties and the youth community in Jordan.
